Right behind electricity, water is another very expensive commodity in the islands. Between normal household use, pools and other water features, and irrigation for landscaping, there are many opportunities to have quite costly leaks that can put a huge dent in your vacation rental income. And if the leak happens inside, particularly when no one is around, you may end up with an expensive home repair bill for water damage on top of a painful water bill. With all of the sharp lava rocks and thirsty critters, hidden landscaping irrigation leaks can go for weeks before you notice visible signs or faint from an enormous surprise water bill.
The first step is to catch any leaks as soon as possible to limit both the waste of water and any potential water damage to your home. We have a range of wireless sensors that we can place inconspicuously anywhere around your home where a water leak could take place. Bathrooms, the kitchen and laundry areas are the most common choices but these sensors will work just about anywhere.
Knowing that a leak has occurred is certainly useful but what if no one is home or your property manager is a significant distance away? Rather than let the water run until someone can arrive to shut it off, potentially incurring significant and expensive damage, we can add smart valves to your home that immediately and automatically shut off the water to the affected area the moment a leak is detected.
Adding a leak sensor under the kitchen sink is pretty straightforward but how do you catch leaks out in your yard if they are underground or otherwise not visible? Rather than using sensors, we can add monitoring to the supply line itself for your irrigation as well as any of the zones it supports and measure how much water you are using at each point. This aids not only in finding where leaks have occurred but also gives you very precise information about how much water you are applying in each part of your landscaping.
We can even connect this information with a managed landscape watering controller to give you complete control over your irrigation systems.
